Hello everyone, I had my tractor picked up by the Mahindra dealer on November 3rd for the installation of a new 3rd function kit, backhoe and some repairs.
I put over 200 hours on my 4550 in about 3 months this summer, what a work horse. Makes my little Ford 1720 look like a little toy.
There were several issues with my new tractor, leaking coupler by the joystick, leaking at the transmission coupler just under the seat on the transmission housing, leaking between the transmission and block gasket, 4x4 drives haft bolts fell out, the rear lift arms sometimes dont want to go down even with the valve opened fully.
The worst thing that scared me most was 59hrs after my engine oil change, I went down a hill behind my house (I have done this with my Ford 1720 a hundred times) and the hood popped up. I stopped the tractor and when I did it started smoking "white" smoke so thick it scared me. I turned the tractor off, got the hood down (this hood should have a latch to lock it down and it does not) and when i tried to restart the tractor it was very hard to start. Once started it smoked so bad I could not even see where to drive. I got the tractor back up the hill and over time it got better and better. I checked the oil level and it was NOT overfilled but I removed 3/4 quart of engine oil to be safe.
Not sure what it was but my guess is oil "sloshed" up through the return castings in the head and got reburned causing the white smoke. Oil even came out the muffler onto the loader mounting arm.
I still do not have my tractor back but understand it is almost finished, waiting on some transmission seals. Nothing wrong with engine and running strong as intended.
The loader frame SHOULD BE THICKER, the bucket has a tendency to yaw/twist when digging. It is a bit flimsy yet lifts an amazing amount compared to my 1720, it is very unnerving seeing the bucket flex so much.
When I was doing daily maintenance, I forgot to raise the brush gaurd and when i used the loader, it pushed it down and twisted it up pretty bad. I removed the damaged gaurd and repaired it, to SOLVE the problem I came up with a simple yet smart idea to add a FLAG to the gaurd so when it is in the "open" position the flag is raised and VISIBLE to the operator when in the driver's seat.
If i can, i will upload some pics.
To say I'm in love would be an understatement, this tractor should be the last one I'll ever need.
